I hear a lot of criticism of Reed, too, but on this very forum there has been plenty of praise for Reed getting Deal and the state government to at least treat Atlanta as something other than a burden on the rest of the state, which is what other recent R governors have done.

Reed did win his last election with 80% of the vote. So I agree he has his flaws, but I think there is no denying he has support in the city.

Sadly, yes.

The Buckhead Coalition certainly isn't all Republicans but anyone who's been to these events knows they have strong representation there. (As they do in Midtown and downtown as well).
Good point, The Buckhead Coalition are the ones who pushed and worked with Mayors Allen and Hartsfield with integration during the civil rights era. It's all about money with them.

I frankly am amused that we are talking about Republicans at all, as if they are some sort of threat to the city of Atlanta. It should be apparent to anyone with a working set of eyeballs that even on a national level they continue to unravel on a daily basis and will probably cease to exist in their current form in the next 5-10 years. I can only hope that the Libertarians will be there to pick up the pieces.

Most black Democrats on the Westside and Southwest Atlanta constantly reiterate this.

In real life... They are in their strongest position EVER if you include state/local as well as federal. The corrupt democratic party is the one unraveling, they only control 4 States! just 4! and none of the federal government. They have this economy ROLLING, they can even slide and maintain a solid edge.

Also, I think ya'll are getting this Amazon plant. It just makes too much sense.

Don't be fooled! I think because of Atlanta's growing influence from Midtown, Buckhead, and film industry the State had no choice but to get behind Atlanta for political reasons. The growth from so many sectors and part of the metro has the potential to absolutely shift things politically. There isn't a thing that gerrymander, racial proclivity(from both whites and blacks) or redistricting can do about it.

Demographics say otherwise. The Republican Party is predominantly white, and the proportion of whites in this country are shrinking. The Republican Party is getting a larger share of a shrinking pie. That is not sustainable.

Not to mention that in their current form they have nothing to offer the Millennials.
