ATLANTA - Some leaders in Atlanta want to start charging a fee for commuters who drive into the city.

Atlanta city councilman Andre Dickens is chairman of Atlanta's transportation committee.
He says it is time Atlanta has its own department of transportation. https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/atl...ce=taboolafeed

I got triggered by the title but then I watched the video. I 100% support this. The title is clickbait, it should have been about the proposed Atlanta DOT.

I agree that Atlanta definitely needs a DOT. It is crazy to me that a city as large as Atlanta doesn't have this in place already. However, I definitely do not think it is a good idea to try and force commuters to pay to drive in to the city. And then to reference NY & SF, really?? Nowhere near the same dynamic and I think it would hurt intown businesses more than anything.

People pay for HOV lanes. Enforce it only during certain hours.

Huh? How does a HOV lane compare to having real commuter options?

Seems to me that are way too many thoroughfares into the city that this would be impossible to implement. What, instead, about a small city income tax on non-residents? The city already collects sales taxes from residents and non-residents alike. Thoughts?

I'd be ok with this if it's reasonable.

I also just think overall solving our transportation issues would be better handled as a region united instead of more divide.

Actually, it isn't a bad comparison.

During a typical work day, the population of Atlanta nearly doubles from office workers and tourists/shoppers. All of those people go home at the end of the day while residents are stuck with the tab for upkeep. It's the exact same scenario NYC, San Francisco, and DC find themselves in every day.
