I'm a seafood freak so I enjoy Spondivits and often take family there when they visit.

The Texas Rib Ranch on Canton Road, Marietta has good barbecue but THE BEST onion rings I have ever had in my life! It's been a few years and being out of the area I hope it is still there.

Any trip to see the leaves this fall should include a stop at either the Smith House in Dahlonega or the Dillard House in Dillard. Old fashioned southern food served homestyle. You sit at a big table with whoever else is there and pass the taters and okra and squash.

Will give a hearty amen to the Cobb Countians that recommended Cazadores on Sandy Plains and The Marietta Diner on Cobb Pkwy.

Gosh, this thread makes me sad I spent so much of my time in Atlanta eating at the chains.

I always eat at the location downtown at 529 peachtree st. Very reasonable too.
I agree. Also Stripsteak at Atlantic Station is pretty good.

There's also a Thai place on 17th street before you cross the bridge thats pretty good.

Vortex is a pretty good dive bar.

The Varsity in my opinion is overrated.

You must be referring to Nan. Same owners as Tamarind Seed at Colony Square...both are terrific.

The Varsity: pukey awful. I've been exactly twice, the second time was not by choice.

Maybe so but since I grew up eating Varsity food I love it anyway--every now and then.

Sorry. I hope I didn't offend anyone with my comment, because I know The Varsity is much beloved by many. I personally find it unpalatable, but tastes vary.

If you have been a few times or even once then you know you are going for the grease. LOL.

A trip to the Varsity or a Krispy Kreme doughnut was a pretty big deal several decades ago.

I have to disagree with Mary Mac's. Growing up in Atlanta it used to be out of sight. It's gone downhill though over the past few years. Unfortunately, right now I think the food is OK and the service is usually horrid.
