Dean and Deluca or a reopening of Eatzies would be fantastic! That along with a few clothhing stores so people would saunter around MM even more on weekends would be perfect.

The poster you were responding was referring to one opening in Virginia Highlands. No disputing the one opening this August on the Midtown Mile.

I don't look at a CB2 to be a destination store. Maybe an Urban Outfitter next door (although I prefer Anthropology) would help. Or, better yet, how about some "non-chain" places. A Dean & Deluca with a southern flair would, in my opinion, be better. Maybe a few specialty food places with a twist. Manhattan daughters mentioned a new bagel spot there where the cream cheese has "mix-ins" made to order ala Coldstone. How about a biscuit with toppings type of place?

I don't think Urban Outfitters would be a good draw there - there are already ones at Lenox, Perimeter, and Poncey Highland.

It is hard to top IKEA for what they are.
I am trying to figure out what the excitement is about CB2.

These days, anything new opening up is cause for excitement given how difficult the economy is. Hopefully this and the new restaurant opening at 999 peachtree will get some momentum going on the midtown mile.

I'm excited about CB2 because it's one of the only places around to find a concentration of reasonable quality, relatively inexpensive modern furniture. Aesthetics and taste vary in importance from person to person, but they're very important to me (I'm a fashion writer by trade) and they're likely important to a decent number of young urbanites with modern tastes who might not have the budgets to go to the boutique-y stores that carry the things we really want. I've done a good bit of reading on their furniture (I plan to buy a decent bit of furniture when I move next), and all the reviews I've seen rank it quite a bit above Ikea in quality. At the very least, I'm more than willing to take a trip down there to check it out. Apartment-scale furniture that's attractive and not super cheap-looking is difficult to find.

That's just me, but I doubt I'm the only person with that line of thinking.
