Hi Folks!
DH and i are moving from upstate NY to Atlanta in a few weeks. just found out he'll be at Morehouse, which is a last minute change from what we had planned. We move May 21st, so i have 2 weeks to find housing and make arrangements.

HELP!

Our family: me, DH, 6 month old baby and 2 small dogs. we're a multi-racial family.

What we want: rental only! home, townhome, apt, or condo. preferably with a yard for the dogs, and a neighborhood with young kids for our son.

top issue: SAFETY! we're small town folk, and not used to big-city-crime. i want a home i feel safe in, a neighborhood i'll be comfy letting my son play in. someplace i feel safe walking outside alone.

other must-haves: close to Morehouse. we're a one-car family so DH will need to be able to walk to Morehouse, or be able to take the bus/Marta with a reasonably short commute (under 20 minutes if possible)

price: we need $950/mo or less, plus utilities.

any suggestions?

Morehouse is not in a nice area. In fact it is IMHO in the worst area of Atlanta. Vine City is just to the north which is where the 92 year old woman was shot by APD, and shares a police beat which has the highest percentage of drug arrests.

You can take Marta rail but you have to walk a couple of blocks to get from the station to the school. A 20 minute commute to there from a safe neighborhood is going to be tough but you could look in Decatur (because its on the same rail line) near a station. I would suggest you begin to look along the east line, places near the Decatur station, Inman Park station or Candler station would probably fit you well.
