The new facilities at the Augusta Regional airport are excellent. They even developing more parking spaces. Unfortunately, Delta has a bad habit of canceling flight to/from Atlanta. I have personally been delayed many times. US Air, in my modest experience, is a bit more reliable. Direct flights to other major airports and addition of new carriers would be of great value to Augusta.

A new runway, FBO Terminal, and parking lot expansion are underway.. They're building a new road ''General Perry Smith Parkway”.

Augusta Regional closer to completing expansion to accomnodate surge of passengers
The airport is also considering building a new road that will open up the south side of the airport to more businesses.

Johnston says there are 25 more days until the new runway is ready to use. The parking lot should open up by the end of November or early December. Augusta Regional is also working with U.S. Airways and looking at bringing more non-stop flights from Augusta to New York and Washington D.C.

There's a new road now open at AGS to bring additional business to the airport..

Augusta airport road named after Perry M. Smith | The Augusta Chronicle
The Augusta Regional Airport and the city of Augusta honored retired Maj. Gen. Perry M. Smith on Tuesday evening by naming a new airport road after him. General Perry Smith Parkway was named by the Aviation Commission to thank Smith for his 30 years of service in the U.S. Air Force and his dedication to Augusta.

When is the new runway scheduled to open? Does it mean that flights will now be able to land? My last 5 flights have been diverted, delayed, or cancelled.

Now that the runway is open, hopefully things will run smoother. I personally have never had major problems flyin in and out of AGS. I do know they had some major issues with the fog earlier this week and had to divert and cancel some flights.
Hopefully now along with the runway , they have the electronics to help land the planes safer

That is the exact problem I have on every flight. The plane makes it to Augusta, can't land, and goes right back to CLT or ATL. Why can't planes land in AGS if there is fog? They land in blizzards at other airports.

Take this for what its worth, but a pilot at the airport told me that the electronic guidance system which most aiports have is not in Augusta. I was unsure if he meant on the planes or the actual airport itself. And the problem is the landing must be eyeballed by the pilot and with low lying fog and a shorter runway im not really sure you want to come out of the fog at 200 feet and land the plane.

Thanks! It's sad though as I thought the purpose on the new runway was to address issues like this. A new runway without the proper electronics is useless.
