There is a area in South Carolina which is heavily populated 'gypsy',I would not call it a 'camp' at all. very nice houses

Maybe not so much as a camp, but a "private" development. you are not welcome there unless invited. I know that have very nice houses. I was down in Georgia last week.

And no, I looked for the very place years and years ago and couldn't find it. I've seen photos of some of the houses and got curious. It's a well-established neighborhood with a distinctive look.

The area you are speaking of is just outside of north augusta, sc and is commonly referred to as "Murphy's Village". The slang term people use to refer to them is "Gypsies" while the PC term would be "Irish Travelers". There are tons of rumors about them and their culture. Some of it true, some of it not so true. Dateline NBC did a story on them a few years ago about how they tend to be swindlers, schemers, and on how their little girls are dressed up beauty pageant style on an everyday basis. I'm sure that it's not on the up-and-up. No one lives in seclusion and secrecy, doesn't work and and gets that kind of money (or any kind of money) from honorable work.
