How hot was it in Austin yesterday (sunday)? It was 101 degrees and 62% humidity in NJ. Shudder. I guess it's Mother Nature's way of getting me ready for my upcoming Austin trip

Is it October yet?

It's about mid-October and sometimes more toward the end of that month before decent weather will once again be upon us.

The highest temperature in Austin yesterday was 99, the humidity ranged from 38% to 88% with the dew point ranging from 66 to 73.4. The NJ weather sounds pathetic too.

I was born in NY although I moved to CA when I was one year old. My parents used to speak of the hot and humid weather in Queens but after we moved to Texas, my dad fussed like crazy about the weather here. Of course, moving from CA to TX is a huge shock to the system as far as weather goes.

The last two weeks of June last year were 6-8 degrees hotter than we've had so far this summer. Mind you, there was NO humidity during the last two summers and this year we are finally experiencing the humid Austin heat we've heard about! DW grew up in Mississippi and I lived in Columbia, SC until I moved to Atlanta for a couple of decades; so, we understand humidity!

I have to say it's nice not to hear the grass crunch under your feet first thing in the morning...everything is so much greener this year! I never thought I would enjoy 'dri-fit' and 'quick-dry' clothing so much! Those cotton pique shirts will hang in the closet until fall!

Nice to have some clouds. Our first two summers had cloud cover only during hail storms!

If you want to enjoy the summers here you need to focus on water sports. Boating and swimming at the lake or many swimming holes in the area, innertubing, canoeing or rafting the rivers, anything that gives you a chance to get wet often.

Actually, she lives in Winchester, CA according to her location and it actually shows the high as being in the low 90's every day. Being familiar with the climate there, the real difference is that it's very dry in inland Southern California because it's basically the desert. Also, it cools off considerably there at night. The lows there will be in the high 50's at night even though it was 95 during the day. Here in Austin, it will still be in the 80's for most of the night so we need to run the AC all night long. Plus, add the extra humidity that they don't see in the CA desert and it even feels a bit warmer here. Just looking at the high of the day doesn't tell the whole story.
