Austin Land and Cattle on Lamar. Specifically the ribeye, medium rare...with the jalapeno blue cheese dipping sauce.

Polvo's is always good.

I'd also consider El Meson. They just opened a new location on S. Lamar. Best interior mexican in town.

That was my first suggestion but the OP requested not too pricey.

I love Chuy's too - if I were LEAVING Austin, that would be the one place I ate before I left. The chile rellanos and the BEST! And so is the tortilla soup! And the green chile rice, and the....... well, you get the picture!

Chuy's is to Tex Mex/Mexican food what Chef Boyardee is to Italian food.

Rio Grande was the best in town before it shut down. I think the combination of high price and lack of parking killed it.

Hardly. But each person has his/her own tastes and preferences. I happen to like New Mexico style Mexican food. Not everyone does, of course. To compare it to Chef Boyardee is very degrading to the business and to me.

I agree, "if you could pick one restaraunt to eat at in Austin" regardless of price, this would always be at the top of my list. As would "Hudson's on the Bend".
