And describe the weather, too.

I'm thinking of moving to a city nearby to join the JobCorps and was really attracted to Austin because I've hear it's similar to Seattle as far as being hip and stuff. I have Seasonal Affective Disorder, would this climate be good for me? HATE seattle for that.

It's not similar to Seattle. And, it's Hot, Hot, and Hot. Sorry.

Laid back, liberal, friendly and action packed... good weather (sunny and warm) except for a few hot summer months June/July/August and a few cold winter days, great food and restaurants w/alot of atmosphere, alot of great parks/hiking/cycling trails, scenic river and lots more.

Great BBQ, Great Food, Great Music, Great People, Great cost of living.

Usually ranked in the top 10 places to live.
There is a reason why.

Laid-back
College-centric
More provincial than I would like
HOT summers
Kind of hard to describe in just 4 words.

I don't consider it very similar to Seattle at all, besides maybe some of the industries. In most other ways it's much more like the other Texas cities than most cities I can think of out of state. You won't have a problem with S.A.D. though.

* Nearby cities are not like Austin
* Hot, hot hot is a good way of putting it... except the few times it's cold!
* Booming & crowded
* Fitness, music, drinking and food are important here
* Youthful population
* Tough, competitive job market

For most, the answer would be: Better Quality Of Life.

Depends on where you come from, I guess. But that's the answer I'd give to almost anyone.

Come with an open mind, willing to explore and try new things, with a job (getting one can be very hard), and you'll likely like it very much.

Weather is hot during summer (folks who like cold weather melt here... you can tell who they are by how much they complain about the weather, which makes me wonder why they moved to Texas to begin with), but otherwise is pretty nice. Winter has a can have quite a few cold days here and there, specially this past Winter! But is normally mild.

A few little bugs... too few to worry about. Honestly, I think some of you have a phobia because I never notice that many bugs... they must not like me?
