Well, with all the budgets being slashed are here I don't think its going to be easy for you. Lots of special needs funding is on the chopping block so everything is up in the air. I don't know of any districts that are not in a hiring freeze. (Maybe some on the border for math and science with dual language) There was just a big "hiring" fair with lots of districts here but not a lot of jobs.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck, but with projected budget cutbacks by the State, most schools in the area have announced layoffs. There have been numerous similar threads about this recently. I have heard that there are areas in the Rio Grande Valley which are less desirable to live, that have teacher shortages where one might be able to find a job.

As the others have said, this is really the wrong time to be looking for any position in a school or any position that a teacher is qualified to do. Thousands of teachers are being laid off for next year and teaches from out of state have been coming to Austin for years. There is a glut of teachers on the market and very little demand.

If you working is critical (i.e. you don't have a partner who is willing to support you indefinitely), then I would reconsider coming to Austin. Even worse, you're coming in September, after school has already started.
