100% agree with you. It seems the city was flooded with bagel shops in the mid-late 90's and they have pretty much disappeared. There are weekend mornings that I am absolutely craving for a bagel and real, authentic lox. I gave up on the hunt and succumbed to Einstein's. Growing up in central Houston with access to the Hot Bagel Shop set a very high bar for me on quality bagels. On the other hand, in Austin, I guess it would be hard for a bagel business to compete with the craze of breakfast tacos.. which I still don't understand the hype.

I can't stand breakfast tacos, I miss a good breakfast with a country potato not dehydrated hash browns.

Yup. Not the best bagels on the planet, but definitely the best and most authentic ones in Austin.

Try Blue Baker.

They just opened in Austin. Breakfast with NY style bagels.

I go to the one in College Station and it's a pretty good bagel (toasted with cream cheese).
Breakfast is over at 10am.

I'm from NYC so I know my bagels. While it's not "just like" NYC style it's pretty close.
