I don't recall the winter, (and I use the term loosely), being this hot/warm/cold, hot/warm/cold. Was it like this last year or the year before? Will it get cold and stay that way for awhile or are we in for this hot/warm/cold till it gets hot again? Can someone refresh my faltering memory?

I'm not complaining! The sleeping temperature has been fine! I'm just curious.

Typical winter for Austin. If you don't like the weather this moment - wait 5 minutes, it'll change!

It's usually like this. I remember Christmas temps in the 80's and Christmas temps in the 20's. You never can tell. My advice is if you want to use a fireplace, use it on nights like tonight because you never know when the next cold night is.

The winters, such as they are here, are usually mild spike with occasional cold fronts. What's unusual so far to me is how extraordinarily dry it's been this year. Does not bode well for next summer.

Yeah, last year Fall was pretty wet. I had a lot of green grass growing in my yards by the time Winter came. It was warm and wet last Winter, and we didn't get any snow!

it is always like this. The reason is that when the wind blows from the north it gets freezing. If it blows from the south then it warms up. If it doesnt blow at all (like under 10mph), then it warms up but is closer to whatever the temperature recently was. So when the north winds blow, it might drop to 25. If the wind stops blowing, it may warm up into the 50s. Here is a link to the wind forecast

Hey, thanks for the input. I'm not sure why I keep holding out for that cold front to stay...must be ingrained living in the cold states for so long! Glad to see that the "colder" months here are normal so far. I'm just glad it gets cold at night. Much easier to sleep.

I have also been interested of late in the wind. We put up two windsocks up high to see out the back and I'm becoming familiar with wind direction. It's interesting to watch because sometimes they seem to spin entirely around...looks as if they're not sure where the wind is coming from! This area seems like a good place to use some wind energy. I also notice the wind most comes from the south.

The wind isnt consistent enough here, on the coast though the wind is more thermal so is more reliable in the summer (there are a lot of windmills on the coast). The best wind is out west. For example lubbock is extremely windy
