I found a couple of nice looking homes in Bastrop online. When we went to look at them they were on the streets that were a total mess. Are there any plans to pave them? These homes were in a still wooded area.

While growing remarkably in the past few years, Bastrop is a rural town. If you require bright shiny new urban amenities, you should probably relocate elsewhere.

I was referring to neighborhood streets, one that I recall was Molokini.

The Google Street View car wasn't even ballsy enough to go down Molokini. It only has about 7,500 folks (2013 estimate), so it's still pretty small.

The fire probably really hurt the city and county governments' budgets. They're getting reimbursed by FEMA, but it's still a cost-share, and it takes up to 8 years to get all of the Fed share (assuming some wasn't de-obligated due to ineligible work, non-competitive procurement, using barred contractors, etc).

Thanks for the info. It's a shame that some of these streets are still in need of repair. And I'm not looking for a shiny new urban amenities , as suggested.

Those streets were never improved. Bastrop is a small country town. Unpaved roads come with that. Accept it or find yourself a more expensive tax burdened urban solution.

The fire damaged a lot of the infrastructure in Bastrop. It's still the most scenic part of Austin IMHO, even prettier than the Hill Country because of the presence of the Lost Pines forest, which has both taller trees and is as hilly as most parts of the Hill Country.

Tahitian Village is not the same as Bastrop proper. Didn't most of it get roasted in the fire?

Yes, it sure did. We were strongly considering Bastrop for a move back in 2007 and toured several homes in Tahitian Village and Pine Forest, including one that eventually (and unfortunately)burnt to a crisp in the fire there. We did NOT care for the street grid in Tahitian Village - it's an emergency responder's nightmare, with roads that cut up or down a block before continuing on odd jagged paths.
