Shill for what purpose?

Since I didn't know exactly what you meant by that, I had to look it up--

SHILL n. an accomplice of a hawker, gambler, or swindler who acts as an enthusiastic customer to entice or encourage others.

Shill might not be the right word, but basically a secondary account created for the purpose of supporting the arguments of their primary account.

Padmapper is great and all, but I find it's somewhat inaccurate as it will still list a lot of "roommate rentals" as being within your price range. The place shows up as, say, $600/month, but upon closer inspection, it's actually a 4 bedroom student rental with the $2400/month rent split 4 ways. :/
Makes it hard to search sometimes.
And yes, I'd stay away from Run-down-berg, unless you feel...adventurous.
I also have an apt. finder lady I can refer you to if you want.

I'm renting a 2BR/1BA for $850 in south east. I live between Riverside & Oltorf. In walking distance to HEB/CVS/Walgreens, KFC/Popeye's/Church's Chicken, McD's/Burger King/Wendy's, Papa John's/Dominoes/Pizza Hut/Little Caesar's, the 100 bus to the airport, 7 bus to UT, and 300 to Walmart. In the process of furnishing the joint.

LOL. Man, it's crazy. I also forgot Whataburger, Subway (two of them, actually), Thundercloud Subs, and there's also a Chipotle that going to be opening up soon. I can see how maintaining weight around here could be difficult for some. xD

But, yeah, I lucked out. I moved into my apartment about six months ago, and I don't doubt that the rent is going to be raised once my lease ends. Nice apartment complex. Nicest I've ever lived in, anyway. There's also a gym with little hanging flat screens turned to ESPN; a club house with foosball table, pool table, and three 65-70" tvs. What I really appreciate the most though is having most of my large package mail be dropped off at the leasing office. I don't have to worry about stuff being left by my door or re-deliveries or having to pickup at the Post Office or what have you.

I thought TXEX06 was being sarcastic. All those restaurants are going to turn over eventually. Add Maudie's, Rudy's, Amy's and other local chains, and you're going somewhere.

Yeah, I wasn't sure how to take his post. Oh well. Sure my post will be of value to some people looking to move to Austin and trying to get an idea of what's affordable.
