I am moving soon and the area I am moving to is serviced by Pedernales Electric. I have always been with Austin Energy.

Is this a good change or bad change? I heard Pedernales was a little bit cheaper but wanted to hear thoughts from people who have experienced both. Interested in cost, service, etc.

Thanks

Depends on your usage. PEC doesn't do social engineering with their rates. As a consequence, higher users see much lower bills w/ PEC. Inverse is the same, unfortunately for low users.

Also, no solar rebates, although they have discussed it. Might be a tough sell to the membership.

The solar rebates with AE are (were) outstanding. Usually July or August until our household sees an electric bill, and we maybe reach $100 in Aug or Sept. 2200sf house with a pool.

You don't get to choose your provider; so it's one of those things I wouldn't think too much about.

I think about the electric industry deregulation.

Maybe it is not a good thing.

I am in round rock, and I use Reliant Energy from the powertochoose website.

Going through all the providers, there are 99 ways to get screwed so to speak.

Many of the providers offer free gift items in exchange for super high electric rates. Example a free nest thermostat.

Some of the rates are just downright scammy.

I spend about an hour a year searching around for a company, and I end up sticking with Reliant usually, they are not the cheapest but they don't do anything weird with the billing and they offer good electric analysis via my smart meter.
