What is Austin's allergy situation like? (how much, allergies, living in)

I'm considering relocating from California and have come across a lot of talk of allergies, especially to Cedar. Has anybody moved there and either experienced allergies or the hype of it? What was your experience? Is it a part of the culture that people deal with? Is it actually unusual? Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Lol, Oak has been high for the last week. Mold is extremely high. Cedar was bad a month or two ago.

Austin is bad for some people, to the point where it is debilitating

I lived here for years before I developed a cedar allergy. It's no joke. I finally ended up getting allergy shots. They cost a fortune, but they really helped. I still feel it during cedar season, but I can at least manage it somewhat now.

Search the forum for allergies, cedar, mold, oak, etc; this and the weather are likely the most common "how do you deal?" topics on this board. There is a ton of info and feedback.

Grew up in CA. Our family lasted four years before the depth and breadth of allergens drove us out of town/state. Permenately affected my eyes specialists here say is not abnormal - the long-lasting effects of central TX allergies. Sinuses aren't much better as a reslut of numerous sinus infections caused by cedar and mold. Glad to only have to deal with spring and fall hayfever here and normal levels of all.

DW had pretty bad allergy when we were in Bay Area. After moving here, she still has allergy, but a little less severe.

It’s not hype.

Oak, Mold and Cedar are the unholy triumvirate. If you’re sensitive to any of those, you’re going to feel it.

Pollen right now is out of control...my car is yellow every day.... not allergic though.. been here 4 years , still no allergies tho

Cedar sometimes will hit you at year 5. If it does, stock up on Claritin.

I was affected by allergies my entire childhood and young adulthood living in texas, but didn't realize how much they affected me until I moved to ny. I had zero allergies for 25 years while living in the northeast.

we moved back to texas 5 years ago and had a headache, blurry vision, cough, and other allergy symptoms nearly non-stop year-round until I started taking daily, multiple allergy medications. I had forgotten how bad the allergens affected me here.

Fingers crossed LOL .. never been allergic to anything in my life... I hope I dodge the cedar bullet
