My family and I are considering moving to Texas and we have been looking at properties for sale. Wanted to know what are the pros or cons for living in Manor or Round Rock. Thanks.

Very generally speaking, RR will have better (possibly much better) public schools than Manor.

Thank you for the info about the schools.
What about if you're going to drive into downtown or North Austin on a daily basis. Would it be a better drive from Round Rock or Manor?

That is a tough one and depends on exactly where you are starting from and exactly where you will be going. Google maps with the time of day option set to the hours you will be driving will give pretty accurate information.

North-north Austin practically IS Round Rock(on the north-east-ish side). As Trainwreck said, it depends on WHERE in the above-mentioned areas you're headed. It's fairly seamless development from north-north Austin to Round Rock; but there is a good-sized gap between Austin and Manor.

Manor is under 10,000 population while Round Rock is over 125K, so quite a difference there.

Thank you, this is good info.
I realize that traffic could depend on many different variables in a given day.
We are planning to trip to Austin later this year, so we will have to check traffic during rush hour.

NE Austin has Pflugerville between Austin and Round Rock, so you have to pay attention to the borders. It's more NW Austin that shares bleeds over with Round Rock, including the school district.

What are your goals for a home other than commute time, for the time that you are NOT on the road? They are two very different communities, with different pluses and minuses, so we need to know more in order to give good advice.

Round Rock is getting more and more crowded. I have lived here for over 10 years now and have really seen the city grow over time with more and more people moving here (the ones priced out of buying in Austin). The traffic is getting worse and crime is on the rise...just an FYI.

Round Rock over Manor at the moment. Both will have at least thirty-forty minute commutes. Round Rock for the most part has the better schools but that really depends on your budget. If your budget is on the modest side, expect to have lower performing schools in Round Rock. The more you spend, the better the schools are (for the most part).

Pflugerville might also be a consideration, it is closer in to Austin that Round Rock and still somewhat affordable. It too is like Round Rock - the more you spend the better the schools.

If schools aren't an issue, then Manor is great for acreage living. You can't beat the prices for lots of land right now and as the area improves, it may be worth the investment.
