Does anyone have any good photos of Lake Travis? I talking about photos that include actual views of the water, that will show quality and clarity. Also any good raft-up coves, and resturants.

Shades and Carlos and Charlies are 2 resturaunts accessible by boat. As for coves, there's like a million of them, and if you are rafting then you can get to many of them with no worries about chewed up rudders.

Dang.... I wish I never lost my hard drive from all my Lake Travis pictures, but these are the only two that I got.

The first one is out by pale face park

The one is out by Jonestown Park. Son feeding the ducks.

I would not raft on Lake Travis. Out by Carlos and Charlies (across from them) there is a famous cove called "Devils Cove" very, very popular cove for everyone and their 50K-200K boats hang out at. Keep in mind that the wakes that are caused out in front of Carlos & Charlies is brutal! I owned a 22' deck boat and it pounded the crap out of it.

if you go out, rent a jetski. I love jumping them wakes back then...... memories!!

I agree with Mike78613. I'd be petrified of getting run over! I've noticed tons more kayakers, canoers, and rafters on Lake Buchanan. There's an island beach in the middle of it, but no resturaunts on the shore there. You have to go into town for that, but it's only a few short miles from the Lake, so no big deal.

Am I hearing that kayaking on Lake Travis isn't safe/pleasant because of the big boats? What about the Pedernales where it enters lake Travis? If you want to move to a place where you can kayak regularly in relative peace, where would that be?

That problem is limited to Lake Travis, west of Austin. The same body of water a couple of dams down (Colorado River) runs right through central Austin and is called Ladybird Lake (used to be called Town lake). It's off limits to most motorized craft, and full of canoes and kayaks all the time. At one part of the lake, by the Mopac pedestrian bridge, I see people playing some kind of polo game in kayaks. I also hear Barton Creek and the rivers in San Marcos/New Braunfels (Guadalupe and San Marcos) are great for kayaking. I would imagine living in central Austin you could kayak every day; no problem with the big motorboats or jet skis.

atxcio has some good recommendations; also, the more remote areas of lake Travis are okay, but you would have to drive out toward the west end (like the Pedernales river).

I'm pretty sure Shades is shut down. I was going to take some out of towners there but their website said they had to close their doors.
