Not in Texas at the moment but I’ve been hearing from my peers it’s been getting hot out there!

It's always hot here in the summer, but last year and this year, excessive heat has started much earlier than usual. Fortunately, we've had a few thunderstorms recently in our region, so things are still green, but won't be for much longer.

This isn’t Austin specific. It’s been a wildly hot June for all of Texas except the panhandle.

It isn't just the heat either. It seems we can't get a decent rain that doesn't come with hail.

What the panhandle has lacked in heat it's made up for in tornadoes lately.

That's part of the climate. Storms are more intense and stormy/severe weather season is expanding in geography and the actual season increases in length.

Are you going to manage jogging in the mornings this week or is it a no go?

Morning tomorrow (also, if ever on Congress between James and the capital Tuesday between 6 and 7:30 am that’s my group running), evening Thursday. Did morning Saturday and Sunday this week. Spin inside tonight and strength Wednesday inside.

We canoed down the San Marcos from City Park to Martindale (~12 miles). It was hot, but the water is still cold (72 F, give or take). There are three dams to portage, with Cummings being a real bear. The noticeable difference from when I last made this run several years ago is the flow rate in the San Marcos river is way down. Had to walk several sections and several rapids are no longer 'runnable' and had to be portaged, as well. The flow rate is <90 cfs, which is almost unheard of in recent decades.

Anyway, had to jump in the river to avoid heat exhaustion after each of the portages .
