We are looking at homes in both the Villages of Hidden Lake (Pflugerville) and Legends Village (Round Rock) and are unsure of the better neighborhood. Any advice on how to choose? Any opinions on either neighborhood? We're leaning toward VOHL b/c of the community amenities and because Legends Village does not own all of the lots which could bring another builder into the neighborhood. Also, in VOHL, we are looking at a Lennar home and in LV, we are looking at a Taylor Morrison home.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

We were buliding in Legands and the train so close it worried me and at the time the feedback on school was not real positive, this was about a 1 1/2 ago though.
Good luck!

Default Villages of Hidden Lake is just a fancy name

I know this thread is old but I decided to post some misc. info about the neighborhood.

Sure wish I knew more about the area before moving here. This neighborhood is turning into a ghetto.

We moved here last year and prior to closing I frequently drove around the neighborhood during different hours of the day. Everything seemed ok...except for the fact that we are surrounded by 6 yappy dogs. But don't even get me started on that.

In the past few months I've notice a big change. There have been a few homes for sale/lease, just about all of them were foreclosures (we knew this because we would look at the MLS listings, just wondering how much houses are going for in this area).

I'll probably be verbally attacked and labeled racists or whatever....just want to point out a few things and hear me out first. I am hispanic, I grew up in a ghetto neighborhood - never knew any better until I got older and moved away.

Anyway, I know there are some people that complain about strict HOAs, trust me, they are actually doing their job right. If you ask me, our HOA is a total slacker...just take a drive around the neighborhood and you'll see weeds in ppl's yards (if they actually have any grass...or dead grass for that matter), garbage cans left out on the street or in the driveway DAYS after pickup day (btw, quick side note, our neighbor has had both her trash and recycle bins in front of her garage for over two months! I'm not kidding.. she never drags them in)....

Very often I see kids, yes blacks kids, playing basket ball just up the street from ours (there are two basket ball hoop thingies, the portable types out in their front lawns all the time, if I recall, in the HOA docs it state that they should be out of view when not in use).

It's weird but I've noticed there are a lot more black ppl moving into the area. I've seen hispanic people and white but I rarely seem them out in the streets. Speaking of being out in the street.. I know people are entitled to do whatever they want in their own house but c'mon... ghetto is ghetto.

I frequently see some guys hanging out in front of their garage (door open), sitting on chairs, speaking loudly, listening to music & drinking (even during a weekday)... I don't know what they are drinking, I've never walked close enough to see but I gather they aren't having cookies with milk.

There is one guy (black guy again) that likes to jog around the 'hood with his dog running wildly ahead of him. Mind you, the dog doesn't look vicious or anything, on the contrary, he looks like he'd love to play with anyone.. but I doubt any kid would appreciate a giant German Sheppard running straight at them.

Today I saw this man jogging with a lady friend but instead of just one dog it was three. I don't know if he was expecting me to something or what but he kept staring at me...even after he was about 1/2 a block away. It was a defiant stare as if to say "what?? you have a problem?" It's like he was just waiting for me to open my mouth so that he could curse at me.

Oh and the lawn guy. There is this one guy (black guy) that walks around the neighborhood with his lawn mover...he goes door to door with a notepad and pen asking if anyone would be interested in having their lawn mowed. I don't have anything against anyone trying to earn a little extra cash but the amounts of time I've seen this guy (and sometimes with a buddy) make me think that he doesn't have a job. Either that or he works at night because I always see him during weekdays.

I could go on..but I'm tired of ranting. Buying a house in this neighborhood (even though it was only purchased as an investment property) was a huge mistake. I'm glad we won't be living here for long. We are fortunate enough to still have another house to go back to in a much, much nicer neighborhood.

Yes, this house is 50% bigger and the lot is about 30% larger AND it cost less than our previous home BUT it's soooooo not worth it.

In defense, of this area I have lots of great things to say about Villages of Hidden Lake! Yes, this is no Steiner Ranch and you don't have the Austin "zip code" or affiliation. We are in the same county as Travis which has better management, police force, and funding than Williamson in Round Rock. The proximity to downtown is awesome (20 mile drive) taking the 130 toll road. The school ratings are great for elementary, middle, and high school. It is extremely quiet, and builders such as Megatel and Buffington are bringing new, luxury homes to the subdivision. There ARE some families here which are kind of ghetto and barely getting by. I don't think they will stick around much longer because property taxes will increase. New neighborhoods with homes starting from $300K are being built on Weiss called Carmel and Sorento. This will keep increasing the property value of the area and weeding out undesirable crowds. Blackhawk, Falcon Pointe, and Avalon are all really beautiful, neighboring subdivisions. Reserve at West Creek is probably the least nice subdivision of everything in this area, it is probably because its all electric and therefore much cheaper homes. We love the Stone Hill Town Center just 2 minutes away! Everything is new, beautiful, and nice posh stores are opening up such as Kirkland's , Charming Charlie, and The Childrens Place. I feel strongly that this was a great decision and we are already seeing a fantastic return on investment! We were looking around in Cedar Park, North West Austin, and Round Rock. We decided on Villages of Hidden Lake because this was the BEST! Don't get me wrong Not ALL of Pflugerville is nice, just as not all of Round Rock and Austin are nice...closer to Windermere things get pretty ghetto. This area offered the best bang for your buck as far as proximity to employment, schools, safety, and larger/newer/nicer homes. I have friends who live in Round Rock that complain of the HOUR plus drive to downtown for work! Plus you can't beat living walking distance to the lovely lake.

It's been about 6 months since I last visited VOHL. At the time I was looking at all the communities in the area (Avalon, Falcon Pointe, Blackhawk and VOHL). The one thing I did notice was that a lot of the yards were pretty poorly maintained. There were a lot of yards with overgrown weeds.
