There used to be several Checkers in Texas. At least in the Dallas area.
Some of the Krystal's here in the Dallas area have already closed up. The one in Denton is closed now and I don't know about the one in Addison/Carrollton. So that count of 3 I would say is down to 2 and possibly just 1.

Hardee's used to be all over Texas years ago for a long time. There are still a few around. Some are in smaller town truck stops.

LOVE DQ. Steak fingers and gravy.... yum. Followed by a chocolate dipped cone.

Hey! They have 3! (But they're calling the Burnet Road one the "original", when the original was on 34th Street - ate there for decades - and something else was in the Burnet Road location.)
Carl's Jr. and then Taco Bell. Taco Bell moved to the North Village shopping center.

talking about fast food is always fun..why, I have no idea....but it is.......I also like regional pig out food you find in convenience stores, like moonpies, candy, and local chips.......there used to be way more regional soda/pop, but most went under......

People are going nuts here in the NYC(New Jersey actually) area for the recently opened Sonic's..waiting for up to 3 hours. Same happened in the Chicago burbs.

Austin has tons of fast food options. I really do miss Chick-fil-A and Whataburger though. Taco C was some good drunk food, I miss that as well. I do like White Castle, I grew up on that. I don't know if Austin would take to that very well though.
There used to be a Checkers on Lamar and Rundberg where the HEB gas station was. It was OK but didn't last for more than 2 years. There's always McDonalds!

Since there are so many California transplants, maybe In and out burger should look to expand to Austin. That would be good.

Reps to you - and what an amazing concept! Enjoy the place you are rather than longing for the place you aren't!
