Can and do drive an 82 VW Scirocco, a GTI or Cabrio would be as good or better, and the 87 Camry, a 5-speed would be better than the auto it has, since I don't usually have many or any passengers, the same or similar drivetrain in a 2-door like a Cilica would be as good or better.
Air-cooled Bug is good within it's limitations.
Older pony cars with "also ran" powertrains (smaller V-8 or I-6) are simple, fun, daily drivers.
An older pickup is handy to have, easy to live with, typically very simple to work on.
IMHO the "golden age" older daily drivers are from about 1960 to 1970, (pre-SMOG era) and then from about 1980 to about 1990 (simple early FI cars). That's not to say everything in these 2 decades is good and everything outside is bad, but in general the trend holds.
Stock and mint condition. I forgot one other to add to the list,...the American Rambler. One of the cars that allows you to fold the front seat backs in order to make a bed. Old girlfriend had one
Plus, the Rambler was very fast when in the SC/Rambler. Ugly paint scheme, kicking dragster though.
Yeah, I've been saying that, too. But it doesn't get through to some people, I guess.
you gotta be kidding me. that LTD is a beast in anyone's eyes. you could probably fit australia in the trunk and the giant's defensive line in the back seat! lol
I'd like to get a '70 Chevy El Camino SS for a (limited) daily driver, and a nice older (70-72) Buick Skylark GS as an alternate.
Although, I've been thinking lately that with these new full replacement steel bodies and frames that are available in the aftermarket, it might be nice to build a brand-new "classic" car from the ground-up.
if it wasn't for all these auto bailouts and the FACT that they're selling cars for less than their cost, i'd join you in starting a production line for some of these old cars. i'd put all the parts out to tender, perhaps i'd introduce a few modern safety features, better suspension and more reliable, fuel efficient motors but there'd be no drive by wire. everything would work independently so if your fuel gauge failed, you'd change the fuel gauge not the entire pc board, dash, electronic management system etc!
