Where I come from things are things, not people.
It's a holdover from old sailing tradition, where ships were always female. And considered the sailor's true wives.

Also from romance languages where gender was/is assigned to things. Look at French or Italian descriptions of cars, ships, and airplanes. Le or La is genderization of the word "the" when put in front of a noun.

The French Tutorial - le, la, les (articles définis)

https://www.theitalianexperiment.com...finite-article

so there it is, in a nutshell, why cars are humanized and genders assigned.

My 911 turbo is definitely a girl, certainly has the hips going for her!

Our SUV is just a beast, 550hp and 560 ft lbs of torque in a 5000lb vehicle doesn't seem feminine at all, which I guess is why my wife gets lots of weird looks when people see her get out of it LOL.

My sedan could be either, but I only refer to the 911 as female.

Oh, for crying out loud. Lighten up just a little bit.

Not everything has to be serious and intellectual.

What year Scout? I've owned both a 800 and a Scout II.

On topic, I've never assigned a sex to my vehicles and have never understood the propensity to do so.

Not to say that I'm not fond of them though. So, come to think of it they've got to be females.

I had a Nissan Versa that I named Vern. I think it had been neutered at the factory.

I call my 2017 Ford Explorer "The Donald", after Trump. While I did not vote for him nor do I like him, the market going wild in 2016 allowed me to profit and sell some stocks to pay cash for the car in Feb 2017.
