Hi all--

I've got one more to add to the list: rice burners of any kind. Usually it's a Honda Civic, but occasionally a Dodge Neon or Chevy Cavalier as well.

I bet my lawn mower has more torque.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of car do you drive?

Since this thread is not meant to be serious, I will not bother with comments on how meaningless generalizations are. Just for fun worst to least worst top five:

1. Boy racer cars (WRX, Neon SRT4, etc).

2. Smug "I am more important than you" driver cars (Caddillac, Audi, Mercedes)

3. Whoopties that should probably not be on the freeway. (Honda Civics seem most common, but any make or model can qualify).

4. Soccer Mom cars (Dodge Caravan, Cherokee, Volvo Wagons, Dodge Charger - why are they always Dodge vehicles?)

5. Car purchased based on "Cuteness or cute ads (Soul, Fiat, Yaris, VW Bug, Smart).

A LOT has changed since 1977, namely the oil crisis and the expansion of the European and Asian car companies.

That was 9 years before Hyundai existed in the US. Obviously Kia didn't exist yet. Sure, there was Datsun, but there was no Infiniti or Nissan. Ditto for Lexus and Acura. BMW, VW and Mercedes have all improved greatly.

Then again, why are we even listening to the opinion of someone who quotes a THIRTY-SIX year old article about which cars are more reliable?
I mentioned that letter because someone brought up 1960s and 1970s cars.

Understand now?

Agreed, coming from the standpoint of a white guy who was way into VW's and drove a hopped-up, then-new Jetta VR6 when he was 20.

There's a general attitude amongst many young VW owners that can basically be summed up thus: "At least it's not a Honda."

To be fair, that is a reasonable point. It's not a Honda.

Around here it seems to be full sized trucks. They're either driven by old men who go under the speed limit, or they're driven by teenage boys that lift them and then tailgate you (with bright purple HID lights).

A huge amount of foreign cars are ugly, too. And class for class, performance of American cars is about the same, if not better, than foreign cars.

Then again, we're trying to convince a guy who believes that "Fox News Rules" and who has expressed many opinions on this board which reveal a certain kind of personality and set of opinions. He's one of those Amurika! types...you know the type, the kind of person who watches Fox "News" and takes every Glenn Beck "fact" as truth while blaming every problem in the world on "liberals" (or his delusion of what "liberals" are).
WAAAAAAAY off-topic. Political comments belong in the political forum. You should know better than that.

I thought the same thing until I started driving around the Hondas that the dealership I worked at took in on trade and realized they were generally more nimble, more fun to drive and, yes, often quicker... to say nothing about reliability.
