a lost art. i wave. i also understand when someone with their arm / hand out and pointing down that s/he's slowing down. i also understand if someone with their left arm / hand sticking straight out they are about to make a lane change to the left, or make a left turn, and sometimes this is preceeded by their arm / hand out pointing down (slowing down for the left turn). i also understand if someone sticks their arm / hand out and point up that they are about to make a lane change to the right, or make a right turn. these examples are for left hand drive vehicles, and can be in addition to light signals.
