to me racing is racing, and i like it all, except perhaps demolition derby. but for off road, something like the paris to dakar run or the baja 1000 gets me going.
Travis Pastrana did his run up Mt. Washington in about 6 minutes 20 seconds, which was a new record time at that time. Rally driver David Higgins broke that record with a 6 minute 11 second run in 2011. He lopped off two more seconds from his record at this year's Mt. Washington Hillclimb event for Rally America:
It's quite a sphincter-tightening experience as you watch Higgins dance around the narrow road, inches away from completely sliding off the side of the mountain. It's especially tense when he reaches the short gravel section, where the narrowness of the dirt path is magnified further.
It's been a good year for the Higgins family. Besides setting the new hillclimb record, Higgins has also won his 4th consecutive Rally America championship. (It's not an off-road race, but it's still remarkable nevertheless)
