California is still going to dictate much of what gets made.
Market size matters.

Personally, I want the highest MPGs I can get.
I would imagine you value your life as well? We can build cars that could be 99% survivable in a crash but that is not practical if you can't afford the car. Furthermore if what is implemented to make it that safe produces a car that no longer does what you want need it to do that is not practical either.

Environmental regulations are important but they also need to be practical and address peoples needs.

Large haulers are a specialty market. The average person is going to buy something like a Camry.

A Camry couldn't do what I NEED a vehicle to do.

I don't know if they still do it but they made "49 state" cars in the past... California may end up with less choices.

Auto makers will produce the kinds of vehicles the public demands. That's why we have such a large variety of vehicles to choose from. MPG is not a consideration when I purchase a vehicle. For those who want a high MPG vehicle, there are choices available to them.

Thank God Trump won, maybe we can have some common sense now. I hope he relaxes Osama Obamas gas milage requirements. Then maybe the manufacturer will forget these little tiny 1.5 liter turbocharged engines. A tiny 1.5 liters engine has no place in anything but the smallest lightest cars, not heavy cars like now.
Many motorcycles have engines bigger than 1.5 liters.

But get into a accident and more cars are being totaled than ever before due to lighter construction materials and more crumple zones. You'll survive the collision but the car may not. Some cars do last longer, but that is usually due to a better engine.

We need to ensure that we use LESS ethanol gas! Overnight we can increase efficiency almost 25% by returning to pure gas. Better for engines too.

Just bring in the diesel versions and they won't have to be so tiny. I have a Isuzu Dmax 4x4 that has a 3L diesel engine and it gets over 30mpg. It's sister vehicle the Chevy Colorado using gasoline and using it's smallest engine barely comes close.
