Unsafe? Most countries around the world (who have much worse traffic than the US) have mostly manual transmission cars up til recently.

Also, those large 18 wheelers you see on the roads that haul our goods across the country- use manual transmissions, some with over 16 gears.

And you shouldn't be resting it on the brake pedal, either.

I’ve been driving manual for so long I don’t even have to think about what gear I’m in. It’s second nature to me.

This guy needs a tricycle.
Then again, maybe not. It takes both feet to operate a tricycle.

Your wrong about that if your brakes go out with an automatic VS a manual the person driving the manual stands a better chance of slowing down faster then in a automatic.

I learned to drive on a manual and it becomes second nature. I prefer it over automatic except in stop and go traffic, it's a pain. All 3 of my cars now are 8 speed ZF automatics which are brilliant so there is no performance advantage of the manual but you do feel more connected to the driving in manual.

Step out of the U.S. and you'll see. Even in major congestion with crazy traffic and maybe no lane markers in the big cities---ALL manual transmissions. Even the buses, all taxis. Down here in So. America.

Europe seemed to have a lot of manuals too. I grew up driving a manual and am a pretty smooth shifter, smoother than DH!
