I'm not one of the younger ones born after the demise of bench seats. I get it. Those were also the days when no one wore a seatbelt. People died. We've wised up since then.

And split bench seats were nice also i loved to use the center arm rest than raise it up to turn it into a full bench seat.

I specifically bought my 2013 Chevy Impala because it was the last car that year that had the front bench seat. My right leg tends to cramp on long drives and it’s a real pain to move it over a console while driving. I like that I’m able to move around in a nice comfortable car. And a truck bothers my back the way the seat sits up strait. I’ve still kept my Impala just for long trips, it’s like sitting on the living room couch. I feel great after a 13-15 hour long drive.

compartmental seats = a form of Birth control

Filling useful space with a big hunk of empty plastic = marketing ploy. (makes you feel like a fighter jet pilot instead of a soccer mom.

Front bench disappeared recently. Now people want center console for drinks between the front seats, and arm rests.
Air bags placement - such are better protecting two front people than three.
People got bigger too. Bench or not bench, three people on front seat would restrict driver mobility.

When you parked on a busy street, you could get in your car through the passenger side and slide over to the driver's seat.
