I got pulled over - blue lights flashing - while riding in my 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis.
There were three of us in front seats.

Young 20 year old LEO had never seen 3 seat belts in the front seat before.

After license and registration. He came back and asked if the seat belts were working. And off I went.

Yep. G'ol six seaters, aye!
Though, I can still sit 6 in my 19 RAM. Center console folds up, acts as backrest and there is center seat belt. All with "sports" seats with bolsters for driver and passenger. So, where's the will...
I think, part of it is general makers cheapness. And, most drive 1 or 2 people in car anyway. Who needs land yachts anymore...

Porsche’s 4 door car the Panamera has 4 seats. The rear are setup just like the front two with a center counsel between them.

They went away for 2 reasons 1) Most people don't like them and 2) they are unsafe, especially with the advent of airbags.

I know that there will always be a small faction of people who think they are wonderful, but it's not enough to make manufacturing them worthwhile for car makers.

In the olden days . . . long before most reading here were born.

All cars had bench seats. And when one viewed a man and a woman in the front seat. One could tell married women from single women.

The woman was snuggled up next to driver - if dating.
The woman was over to the far side near passenger window if married.

Get it ?

Now that drive-ins have been resurrected due to the pandemic, someone needs to rent out cars with bench seats.
