If u check the websites of NIHTSA & EURO-NCAP & watch the crash test videos,u will see that even Volvos,MBs,BMWs before 2000 were unsafe...

Before 1995, they collapse like sardine cans...

Cars after 2001-2,with at least 6 a/b,front,side,head seem to be safe even today...

I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus R/T coupe, A.K.A. Mitsubishi Eclipse. I maintain it regularly, and it performs very well. It needs paint, thus I call it the Dodge Leper. I plan on driving it until the cost of repairs exceeds the cost of buying another used car with low mileage. I do not trade in cars every 2-3 years. I am too fiscally frugal.

1984 Mercury vs 2000 Honda......Merc at a stop sign....Honda at 45mph and accelerating. Mercury and Honda both a total loss. Mercury body collapsed to the rear wheels, occupants not injured. Honda crushed to the firewall, driver door has to be peeled off to extricate driver who suffers broken wrists, bruised ribs and numerous other minor injuries. Merc' able to drive on to the flatbed, Honda winched on.

Not bad for a sardine can from 1984.

Results not meaningful,as a real scientist ( of physics) might say...

Curb weight, momentum, angle of impact, vectors of forces, all play a synergical role...

Check the official crash test videos ,in youtube...

Remember that offset crashes ( euro-style,then adopted by NIHTSA) are tougher to the car...

No one should keep a car/SUV wich does not have at least
4 star rating
& 6 a/b,front,side,head...

Better sell everything pre-2000...

Used to buy new but wised up after my last new purchase 8 yrs ago. 02 Audi A4, basic maintenance and 2 sets of tires and that's about it. 97K on it and has another 100K easy. 100K or the tranny goes is when I'll get rid of it. 05' Colorado w/ 68K and basic maintenance and still going strong. Won't get rid of that until it hits 300K. Then my 93 Z28 w/ 70K on the body and 2K on the new engine I just built. Weekend toy if that and will go to the grave w/ me. More than likely it'll be another 5 yrs before the next used purchase but I'm shooting for 10.

Well you do sell cars for a living.

Some of us with actual wrench-turning skills, as opposed to BS skills, can make an older rig work just fine.
