To find the resolution limit you divide this by the distance and take the arctangent of the result: atan(200/35000) =0.3274 degrees That's almost 20 arc-minutes, which is much larger than required for us to see it. In other words, not only should we be able to see the MH370 at sea level from 35,000 feet high, we also should be able to see a much smaller aircraft! We all need to just wait a couple of days to see what happens with this debris off Australia. If it turns out to be the plane, than all these theories about landing in Pakistan and crashing near Andaman Island or the Maldives are moot.
It's roughly 5,000 km from the last datum of the last transmission to the first sighting of the large debris. Now how fast would the wind, tide and currents have had to have pushed the debris from that datum to this new point over 12 days. Let's see that's 288 (maximum) hours and 5,000 km (minimum) =17km/hr or 10 miles/hr.

I have the feeling we may learn a lot about oceanography if the plane is found off of Australia.
Why would it be in Pakistan? Is there anything or anyone associated with this flight that would link it to there? What would be the purpose of landing there? I wonder where this general is getting his information...Regardless, I'm sure it will be discredited soon enough.

Terrorists have a lot of support in Pakistan and control entire regions. It's not a fluke that the most wanted man in the world Bin Laden managed to live invisibly for ten years a few kilometers from a Pakistani military base.

It wasn't a fluke, but it sure was egg on the face of that country, and because of that I imagine they upped their security measures considerably.
