Anyone here have any reasonable conjectures about why this plane went down? The information being released to the press about the flight data recorder is that it is consistent with the Acars. Surely the flight data recorder monitors the electrical systems (and thousands of other things). I guess it takes time to put things together to describe what happened, after the initial cause, which is probably a lot harder to pin down.
I also read that the plane is believed to have broken up in mid-air. Due to a fire in the main electrical panel? Can anyone make sense of that? What else is in the area that would cause the aircraft to break up? Or could that also be due to stresses that occurred after the flight controls were damaged by a fire, as the plane was heading in.

You know, Egypt wanted it to be terrorism. That's why Egyptian authorities were so eager to suggest terrorism initially.
That way, it could be blamed on the fault of French airport security. Instead, now, fault is likely to lie with EgyptAir. Faulty or neglectful maintenance, or improper transportation of volatile cargo. So, in your disappointment - clearly, you really wish it had been terror - you're spinning a tale in which Egyptian officials are covering up for terrorism that wasn't caught by foreign security and are instead falsely pinning the blame on their own national airline.
That's doesn't make a lick of sense. But it allows you do dismiss the reality that this probably wasn't terrorism... again, because you just really wish that it was.
Both of the so-called "black box" recorders reinforce the automated electronic messages sent out by the plane that had shown smoke detectors going off in a toilet and in the avionics area below the cockpit, minutes before the plane disappeared.
The data recorders had been taken to Paris after being found, and the cockpit voice recorder was in need of considerable repair.
Investigators are still analysing the voice exchanges and no official statement has yet been made on the contents.

This is what we know. There was smoke and probably fire as well. Fire can be caused in numerous ways. Why are you assuming it was just a short somewhere? Aren't YOU wishing it wasn't terrorism?

News from Egypt has dried up as the Egyptian experts work to find a story that fits the data they have, will be liked by the government and can be sold to, and accepted by, the US and French investigators.
