We only have one grocery store. I do not understand what is going on. The restaurant by my apartment closed in less than a year. The chinese store that I used to go to is closed and now the grocery store. I now have to go to Eddie's. This really sucks!

I wonder if they will blame the bottle tax.

I'm sad it's closing too. Sure, it wasn't the best grocery store ever (overpriced, often out of the key ingredient I needed for the dinner I had planned), but it's the only grocery store within walking distance. I like living downtown and being able to walk to just about everything I need, so I'm not a fan of having to drive somewhere every time I want basic groceries. I hope another grocery store moves into that spot soon.

I found this article. Seems like the parent company didn't 'market' this store correctly.

Me too. Eddie's is not that great of a grocery store. I was not impressed with Safeway either. I want to move but when you factor gas and utilities , I am not sure if it is worth it.

The store was pretty well cleaned out within a few days of the announcement too... I don't see how they are going to stay open for three more weeks!

I've been using a combo of Safeway delivery and Whole Foods for the most part anyway, but know my willingness to walk/bus to Whole Foods is going to fade as the winter goes on. Hopefully a store with more experience running small/urban shops will move in.

The Fresh Market chain which has a store in Quarry Lake and in Towson. That would be a great market there. How can Baltimore make this happen?

Yup I went there last week and many of the shelves were completely empty, and the produce and meat sections had been cleaned out. I picked up a few pantry items to take advantage of the discounts (20-40% off), but everything had been picked over.

I wouldn't be opposed to a small subsidy to maintain this grocery location. This is the second company to try and fail -- maybe we can provide the next grocer a little help in the short term.
