I think Minn and Dodgers may be front runners for Lee. Id love to see Cincy get him and would die if the Cards did. You are right, he is obviously a rental but could be well worth it.
G Man
He's worth the risk. I'd like to see the Reds get him as well.
It's official Lee goes to Texas, Mariners used Lee as Yankees potential trade as leverage to put the squeeze on other teams to get what they want. Lee will not pitch tonight.
The National League team that wins 7 playoff games in 2010 will win the National League.
At this point we know Pittsburgh, Houston, Arizona, and probably Chicago, Milwaukee, and Washington won't be teams that do that. Every other team has a chance at this point.
I still think the Phils will get healthy and come back strong and take the division, with either the Braves or Rockies taking the wild card. And I like the Phils chances of winning the pennant again....their record right now is pretty much the same as it was at this point last year.
The Braves never make it and if they do win their division will most likely get knocked out in the first round. Phils and Mets will make it competitive with the edge going to the Phils for the wild card and possibly even the division. The Yankees again? I'm not so sure.
Despite the continual gloom-and-doom predictions (not by me!) about what the Mets WILL do, I stubbornly maintain that you have to play the games before you know these kinds of things. Therefore, I put in my vote for a contending Met team.
Chip72, I think you may be onto something (post #14).
The Mets are a few games under .500 since they beat up on the Indians and Orioles, and they're falling fast. The Phillies managed to tie up the loss column with them too, so they should find themselves in third place soon enough the way things are going. The Braves aren't giving up first place to anyone right now without a real fight.
A number of people on at least two teams at least questioned the legitimacy of the Mets turning things around at home. Charlie Manuel with his comments was probably just reacting to something the Phillies went through at the time, but the Twins were changing signs constantly (which all teams should do anyway). Even Mets broadcasters commented on that and figured it meant there was some concern with what the Mets were doing.
The Mets will still make some noise. A visibly larger David Wright is locked in, and a visibly larger Carlos Beltran will be back tonight but will almost certainly have some catching up to do. They're gonna do whatever they can to try and steal one, but in the end they're still more than likely going to be looking at a third place finish.
