15,000 for historically one of the slowest attendance days of the year isn't too bad. 17,500 today for a 3:10 game.

don't look now, but 2 games back - and you've got to admit, this team's pitching has underperformed, especially the relief pitching. Lucky to not be 10 games back.

Too bad the Rays can't do better than that. And for a team in contention, no less.

We like to stay home and watch on the HDTV. Rays rank among the best in TV viewership - and believe it or not, the Rays billionaire ownership makes $$$$ when fans watch the games on the tube.

2013 MLB Attendance - Major League Baseball - ESPN

Rays have an old beat-up, out of the way stadium and a payroll among the lowest in the league and yet still avg the same as the Astros in a state-of-the-art stadium. Wonder why Houstonians don't support their baseball team.

What's the status of the Rays' new ballpark plan? They talked about it a few years ago. What's the latest on that?

No movement on it. No plans at this time. Current Tropicana lease is until around 2026. As the team gets closer to it, it'll likely buy its way out of that lease. To tell the truth, even a new stadium doesn't guarantee attendance. There are plenty of teams who had an initial spike due to the novelty of a new stadium, but now aren't doing so well.

I just think that the TB area demographically can't support baseball. Nothing wrong of shameful about that. If the owner can find a better city that will sellout their stadium, go for it. I don't think there are many available. Maybe some New Jersey or Connecticut city - or San Antonio, Charlotte, New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville, Portland, Las Vegas. But truthfully, either the other owners won't allow it because of territorial issues, or the city isn't as populated as TB/ST Pete.

That's a shame. Maybe the problem in Tampa is just where The Trop is located. Y'all had one really great idea a couple of years ago with a waterfront ballpark. Now that would have been cool.........and can still be if enough leaders can go along with the idea. Miami's situation (by comparison) notwithstanding, I think Tampa/St Pete can make a new baseball-friendly park work. I'd be all for it. You've got a team that's winning, and that's key.
