I've been hearing and reading rumors that Yunel Escobar of the Blue Jays is clearing waivers right now. Perhaps Beane is trying to get a decent enough SS on the cheap.
Escobar is in the game tonight. He is one for five. He struck out in the top of the ninth with three swings which looked like he was in a hurry to go put money in the parking meter.
That inning was a real pisser. Cook struck out the first two hitters, gave up a single, got ahead of Davis 0-2 and gave up this cheap blooper just over Weeks' glove. Then Cook got ahead of Mathis 0-2. He worked the count full and hit the 3-2 over the leftfield wall. Tie game.
Straily had hung around in the dugout in anticipation of his first ML win, they kept cutting to shots of his beaming with pride family in the stands...and then came Mathis.
The A's have the bases loaded with 1 out and Reddick up in the bottom of the 10th as I type...
Can anyone explain to me why the pitcher was hitting for Toronto? Is it because the DH was hurt and they ran out of batters?
