Taylor .659 - .929
Pederson .743 - .794
Bellinger .946 - .944
Hernandez .843 - .773
Gonzalez .541 - .643
Puig .227 - .815
Barnes .654 - .929
Utley .259 - .750
SVS .573 - .543

Only one player has hit substantively (50 OPS points) better when hitting fifth (Hernandez and in only 34 PAs), while 8 hitters have hit significantly worse.
Thanks. Where did you find the above information? I know where to find what a player is batting in each lineup position, but not what he is batting everywhere except one lineup slot. Did you calculate all that yourself? Also, do you know which Dodger has most frequently hit out of the 5th slot?

It might be random variation as you suggest, but in the absence of running significance tests, we don't know if there is or isn't something causing the variation....not that I have a testable thesis at hand.

And I'd say "Wow! Puig sure hates hitting in the 5th position", but I suspect that the figures are the result of his not batting in that slot very many times.

I imagine the same place that you found yours.
Baseball-Reference>Dodgers>Batting>Splits.
https://www.baseball-reference.com/t...=LAD&year=2017

If you click on the position in the batting order (or, for defensive position, or for most of the splits) it shows the player breakdown.

I didn't do that. I'd have to do it manually, that's a lot of work. It just posted batting 5th stats and overall stats.

It's Logan Forsythe with 18% (83/463) of the PA's hitting 5th.

32 PAs

The A's and Mariners made a post deadline waivers deal, Oakland sending their sole All Star, Yonder Alonso, in exchange for minor leaguer Boog Powell....who the A's originally drafted back in 2012. (This Powell is unrelated to the former Orioles firstbaseman and one time MVP of the same name)

Alsonso was unloaded because:
A) He would have been a free agent when the season ended
B) His great first half has masked a second half return to his normal self. His OPS for the year by months:
April: .870
May: 1.228
June: .786
July: .789
August: .730

His career OPS is .742.

Powell has been a good on base skills/no power outfielder in the minors, but fizzled when he finally got a ML shot this year in Seattle (batted .194 in 43 plate appearances.)

From what was said by Ken Rosenthal as well is that the A's wanted to play Ryon Healy to expedite that trade.

I didn't want the Yankees to get Alonso, they would be overpaying for a good first half. The market for 1B right now is dead, which is surprising. Usually it would be the easiest position to fill

Following tonight's loss to the Giants, the Cubs' Kris Bryant has an OBA of .391 and is slugging .512. His teammate Anthony Rizzo has an OBA of .388 and is slugging .511.

Tim Beckham is now 20 for 39 in his 10 games with the Orioles.

That's 3 homers, 2 triples, 4 doubles, 11 singles, and a walk. And 9 runs.

Sonny Gray meanwhile, 0-2 as a Yankee.
