Wild card races are really hot now. And the AL East looks like it will come down to the wire for first place.

My Cards really botched up that series with the Cubs, and now, their window for the post-season is slowly closing.

The Cardinals' lack of runs batted in against the Cubs is another legitimate reason why hitting coach John Mabry will be fired.

Unless the Colorado Rockies implode, they will play in the postseason play-in game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. An Arizona Diamondbacks-Los Angeles Dodgers series could be fun. The Dodgers have decayed in the past month.

The A's aren't winning post season berths this season, but one thing they have won is the trade they made with Seattle.

Since going to the Mariners, Yonder Alonso, who had been playing far over his head for the first half of the year, has batted .255/.342/.387, which is very much congruent with his career line of .268/.331/.404.

Boog Powell, who the A's originally drafted and traded away in 2012, was acquired for Alonso and has batted a robust .321/.386/.494 for Oakland.

Alonso is 30 years old, is making 4 million this season, and is a free agent for 2018. Powell is 24 and makes the ML minimum.

In this homer happy year, the four teams with the best records in MLB are all playing in neutral or close to neutral home run environments. Ranking all 30 stadiums for the ease or difficulty of hitting a home run there, we find that Washington is in 13th place (1.033) Houston is in 14th place (1.027), and the Dodgers and Indians are tied for 16th place (1.000) with perfectly home run neutral parks.

The best place to be a slugger this year is Philadelphia. Their park is # 1 at 1.422. AT&T is once again the toughest place to park one, for every home run hit at a league neutral stadium, .62 of a home run is hit in San Francisco. It isn't just the air, across the Bay the Coliseum ranks as the 7th best home run environment.

Of all the power hitters in the game, of all the people that got the home run to break MLB's record for most homers in a single season came from the Royals Alex Gordon........who is having by far the worst season of his career.

In other Royals news will Moustakas ever break Balboni's single season record?? Seems like he hit #35 a month ago and has yet to pass him.

Aaron Judge now has a .798 OPS after the ASB. Not bad at all considering the monstrous slump he had. 1.080 OPS in September. If Judge can find the middle ground and become an .850-.900 OPS player, he would be very very valuable for the Yankees. Even a .798 OPS wouldn't be too bad, considering his defense

The rabbitball prevails! Most homers in league history and most players with 20+.

For all I know, you may be right about the ball being changed. However, for all you know, it may not have been changed.

So, while you may be right, it would be more interesting if you presented your evidence for your assertion. That there have been more home runs hit isn't proof of a juiced ball. You would need to eliminate all other possibilities before you could safely take that position.

I am recalling all of the theories which were advanced in the '90's to explain the jump in offensive production. It was the new stadiums, it was the unrealistic strikezone the umpires were calling, it was the new bats with whip handles...and it was the juiced ball. All of those theories proved groundless when the PEDs use was uncovered, the ball wasn't juiced, the players were.

So, we would also have to entertain the possibility of something going on we haven't even guessed at yet.

Yankees go an astounding 14-5 in September...and barely pick up any games on the Red Sox. Sigh

I guess that's slightly better than being 17-2 and actually losing a game, but it still sucks. And I hate the Yankees closing schedule. 6 games left against the Blue Jays, who for the last couple of years have not played very well against them.
