The Cardinals fell to the Pirates 4-2. Carlos Martinez (4-2) gave up three hits, allowed one run, and struck out two before leaving in the fourth inning with bases loaded. Brandon Moss struck out in 3/4 at bats, and could find himself in pinch hitting duty.

Hope Carlos Martinez is all right. "Fatigue" was a strange diagnosis as his velocity was fine going into his final inning.

"Good" Liriano was on last night for Bucs. Had everything working and got calls on the black. When that happens, you might as well be facing Arrieta. Probably would've been a shutout if not for that 49' wild pitch. And too bad you guys got the Wrath of Kang instead of the Cubs.

Martinez is a good pitcher. His last two starts were dismal. I hope he can get his act together, and/or the Cardinals can bring in other good pitchers.

Matt Carpenter's two-run home run in the ninth inning, his fourth home run of the season, propelled the Cardinals to the 6-4 win over the Pirates. Stephen Piscotty hit his fifth home run of the season. Randal Grichuk batted in three runs.

Trevor Rosenthal (1-1) won the decision. Adam Wainwright gave up seven hits, allowed three runs, and struck out five in six and one-third innings.
