Some interesting comments, including these about the Malice at the Palace:
Quote:
I put my career on the line twice. We were all basically the same age on a young, fiery team who had its share of legal struggles. We all grew up basically in the hood, so we related to each other.

So when Ron went into the stands, I didnít think twice about it because he was my brother. I just went up there.

Weird question, but to battle like that Ö was it fun at all?

When I hit that fan, I definitely enjoyed it -- until that fine came down. That $3 million I lost killed me. It brought me back to reality because I could have lost my job.

It was wild because it had never been done before. And it will never happen again so, yeah, adrenaline was flowing. How many people can say that theyíve punched a fan?

Do you know all the stuff that they say to us? The racist stuff they say to us? We get the N-word and people talking about our wives and family.

Just because we make a lot of money weíre supposed to be the bigger person? Fans tell us that our kids are ugly and that they should have thrown our mothers in jail for having us. Thatís not disrespectful?

Iíve been in a lot of fights and done some things I shouldnít have done, but Iíve never sold drugs or been locked up, so for people to think that way about me isnít right.

They had life-size posters of me in Utah with me behind bars. Before the situation with Jamaal Tinsley, I had never been in jail, and Iím from the projects!

Do you regret the Palace brawl?

No. Because the idea of Ron laying in the stands unconscious with all his teeth knocked out Ö no way. That whole arena was against and I didnít have it in my heart not to do anything.
Stephen Jackson San Antonio Spurs rap - ESPN

I don't necessarily agree with what he said, but it's refreshing to hear an athlete be honest rather than saying what he thinks people want to hear.

Capt jack is from port arthor tx. Rough place! We did a bunch of hurricane recovery homes out there a couple yrs ago, I would not go back. Guys robbed at gun point on a job site while framing a house, AC units stolen literally less then an hour after installation. Just a terrible place all around.

I remember seeing Jackson hit that fan and if he wasn't grabbed by one of his teammates that fan would have been in bad shape.

Hard to believe that was 8 years ago

I think Stephen Jackson was wrong for how he handled that situation because in my opinion he was the one who escalated it. If you look at the video, Ron Artest only went up there to ask who threw the bottle at him. Unfortunately people assume that Artest was the first one throwing punches, which he was not.

As far as everything else Jackson said, I agree. These fans are out of control. I remember when there was a situation with Antonio Davis a few years ago right after the Brawl, and he was suspended for confronting a man who was threatening his wife. What man in their right mind wouldn't go up in the stands to keep his wife safe? Stern has always been quick to punish the players but some of these fans should be kicked out of the games the way that they act.

You need to look at the video again because Artest clearly attacked the guy as soon as he got into the stands. I don't recall him going into the stands to ask someone a question

NBA Indiana Pacers vs Detroit Pistons Fight at the Palace - YouTube

Look at the video at 1:50. He grabbed the dude but didn't punch him. Someone threw a cup at him and then the dude behind him punched him, which is when he started fighting back.

Also wanted to point out, it irritated me that Jermaine O'Neal was punished for as long as he was. Some random fan walks up to you ON THE COURT, what are you supposed to do? I don't blame him for punching that guy. What good would have come out of a fan coming up to him like that? Security deserved most of the blame for this brawl.

Probably did, but he didn't hit anyone until he was hit first. It was just ridiculous situation for everyone involved.

I like ESPN's version of the brawl better than that local Detroit version
