I plan to attend the 76ers' first road game of the season down here in DC on Friday night. Hopefully the 76ers won't get embarrassed. I actually have no problem with the 76ers being really bad this season. The team they had 2-3 years ago under Doug Collins was a very nice team and maximized their abilities, but they weren't a serious NBA title threat unless they got a superstar, which is very hard to do if you are a middle-of-the-pack team. The franchise made the right decision to fall back this season, and assuming Nerlens Noel can come back 100% from his injury and the 76ers get a high lottery pick next season, they could improve significantly in 2014-2015.
I know it's kinda off-topic, but is Philly even a basketball city? Doesn't seem like many care about the 76ers in Philadelphia, I'd venture to say even the Flyers are more important...
Philadelphia is more of a college basketball city than an NBA city. That is very, very unusual among the very large U.S. cities (actually, I'd say Philadelphia is unique in that regard).
I'm glad to see that Allen Iverson's number will be officially retired tonight. He is easily one of the greatest players of all time.
It's a bit sad he went out the way he did. He kind of just faded into the background. I always hoped he'd go out after a full season on a decent contender, and then have a press conference.
I bet no one had the 76ers winning tonight against the Heat. Micheal Carter-Williams really impressed me tonight. He almost had a triple-double in his 1st ever NBA game. I really hope he develops into a franchise player who you can build a team around.
