I agree. Progress comes from doing something more like getting rid of these two shoddy riverboats downtown and putting up to or three big casino resorts that actually attract. Then taking the profits and using them to build new schools, police stations, parks, etc. That would be something that benefits the whole populous. Sure, casinos can be looked down upon as 'filthy' but you can't deny that they are revenue generators if done correctly. There are plenty of great things going on right now around town, but we need to do something that will benefit the entire parish for the long term future. If we create a better education system, we attract new business which brings in new people and adds to the tax base, which in turn means we can attract and build more great things. I'm afraid it all starts in the schools and that's where we're lacking the most right now.

Don't worry Rosie, I have been back farther than that. You state that Baton Rouge is not making improvements any you don't think it will in the future. Caa remarked about the development downtown, and about improvements to BREC. I avoided discussing Perkins Rowe because I believe it is less than it is cracked up to be. I don't see how what I discussed was not at all pertinent to the main idea.

10. The Weather : It's too damn hot and muggy too long, (I currently enjoy a 4 distinct seaons in D.C.)

Damn does the weather suck in baton rouge, the "greenery is beautiful" i loved all the lush yards, but the weather was unbereable, i was there in july for 9 dys, and i had to be taking 3 showers a day!!!! I even told one of my friends that you could never go out on a date in baton rouge, cuz by the first 10 min you would be all sticky and stinky!

You are definitely correct about the weather here. Coincidentally, I grew up in DC in the 50s and 60s, and you couldn't pay me enough money to move back there (even though the summers are milder). What you gain in weather, you give back in high prices.

Weather is all relative. I lived in South Florida most of my life and compared to there, it gets freezing here, we have a slight change of seasons and the humidity is bad, but does not last NEARLY as long as the humidity in Florida! The weather here is perfect to me, just relative to where you are from and what you are used to! Also, I think the education system all over the south is bad and I really do not think they will improve here very much-maybe in 30 years!! That is why I think other improvements are going to make Baton Rouge better.

You make a fine point lad, but personally I would never live in D.C., sure it's more of a city and there are diversity and such, but what's important in life - keeping the partying going? Or accomplishing something in your life? The latter can be accomplished anywhere. As for D.C. it is a poor place to rase a family, but certainly a fun fast-paced city.

How can you even begin to compare BR to cities like DC and NYC. They are completely different and attract a vastly different dynamic of people. I was raised in NYC and the place is NOT all it's cracked up to be. You'll be hard pressed to find 20/30somethings who aren't living off their parents' money in Manhattan these days. Unless you have 5 roommates in a studio apartment, you can't afford to live there. Everyone enjoying the social scene there is commuting via the subway from the outlying boroughs or via the LIRR from Long Island. Same goes for Metro North and NJ Transit.

And as for DC. Can't stand the place. Sure, it's got attractions, but honestly, how many times are you going to go to the same place? I've seen the major landmarks in the span of a short vacation. And after the horrific experience of driving from Annapolis, MD - Arlington National Cemetery in what should have been a military funeral procession at 10am on a Tuesday, I never want to go back there again. Not only was the terrible horrific as usual, but people were cutting us off and honking at us. I couldn't believe how disrespectful people could be in the capital city of this country. Shame on them. You can keep the ungrateful and rude animals.

Please feel free to read below some reasons why one would go to metropolitan Washington D.C.:

D.C. region is nation's richest, most educated

MARYLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS RANK NUMBER ONE AGAIN

America's Best And Worst Job Markets:Washington, D.C., is hot, and so is Austin. Miami and Southern California lag badly.

The Washington D.C. metropolitan housing market is in the recovery cycle — ahead of the rest of the nation, according to a new housing report (http://www.reoi.com/news/washington-d-c-housing-market-in-recovery-mode-mrisdelta - broken link)

Washington County's Morgan named national superintendent of the year

I hope you all enjoy these articles. Meanwhile let's all pray for Louisiana and the rest of the Deep South that the shroud of ignorance will be lifted!
