With the high price of lumber today, it's hard to believe they can build this for a mere $100 million!

Anyone has any information on plans for the Sears property, at the Galleria? I was over there today, and was thinking how the mall owners could reinvigorate that end of them mall and create sort of a grand entrance. They could tear down the Sears, and create a Summit-like promenade that extends all of the way to 150/John Hawkins. This would obviously remove the former Earthfare and Sears Auto.

Last I heard Hoover wanted to buy it and use it as some sort of public works building, which to me seems... eh. I would have hoped some other retailer would want to move in.

In Alabama, infrastructure dollars revive a 'zombie' highway

Andy Sullivan, Reuters

North of Birmingham, a gravel road bed slices through a series of steep ridges, part of a stalled effort to carve a 52-mile freeway around the rural fringes of Alabama's largest city. Construction stopped five years ago on the road, dubbed the Birmingham Northern Beltline, after federal funding ran out.
