I did not enjoy my year of living in Boston, however, since I've left I've probably visited ten times and always had a good time.

What did I do as a visitor that I didn't do when I was living in Boston? As a visitor, I had my own car and didn't have to deal with the day-to-day misery of the Boston subway system, and in particular, the unhappy-looking people who ride the subway day after day. I stayed in nice hotels instead of an awful Boston apartment.

My advice to someone trying to make it through another six months in Boston would be: drive a car, live in a nice extended stay hotel, eat well, and don't listen to local Boston radio.

Out of curiosity, where have you / do you live now where people commuting to work every day look happy?

Well that takes out the concept of traveling.

When I go overseas I eat as little fast food as possible. Heck once it was their version (a quick in france) rather than domestic.

I don't come back with a mindset that somehow I would have to have all the comforts of home everywhere.

Some things are better off if they don't expand. In Mass I know of one Popeyes (Brockton) ...and in RI two (providence place mall and one other). Meanwhile there's no duncan donuts in the south west but they have them in asia ?!?

I'd also say that there is diversity of places that are local but not everyone knows about it. We get used to everything having to be a big chain or big box that we lose sight of whats around us.
I lived in Florida where fast food chains were literally everywhere. There were about ten to choose from (some duplicate) within a one mile radius of where I lived. Add to that, 4 Best Buys, 3 Targets and a Starbucks every 100 yards or so - I would NOT want anywhere in New England to completely end up like that, even though of course there are also strip malls here, but I have to drive to the area around North Shore Mall in Peabody to find anything remotely resembling a typical street in Anytown, FL.

Clearly, you did not read all of my posts, or you would know that we do not go around frequenting chain restaurants. This post was precisely my point that EVEN CHAINS here are sub par as compared to the same chains in other locations. I'd say I eat at a chain restaurant two or three times a year. I do not prefer them.

You also did not answer the question of where else you have dined in Boston to come to the conclusion that the food in subpar. Yes we know you lived in New Hampshire and the food is terrible....but how is that a reflection on Massachusetts? If it is, where have you eaten in Boston?

whenever the word birthing center gets brought up, I think whack job. Get your kid born at a hospital, if your baby is healthy you go home the next day. If something goes wrong, you'd be lucky to have probably the best Oby Gyn department in the country at BWH.

Like for real, someone complaining about healthcare in boston.....FOR REAL

strong troll.

I do have to say boston's dining scene is not what it could be, by which I mean it isn't NYC....but then few places are. Places like Criegie on main and hungry mother are way over hyped. The reason chains in boston suck is that they don't even make the effort cause there are so many better places around. They just suck up tourists or the lunch crowd who don't want anything to fancy or make reservations.
