Default Moving to Boston...need help please!

I am looking into relocating to Boston and my job will be in Boston. I have a vehicle and will be looking to rent a small apartment. I will be looking to spend around 800-900 for an apartment.

Im not looking to live within the city limits and doubt I could afford to if I wanted to. Im looking for someplace close where I won't have to worry about being car jacked or robbed.

Any suggestions on a place to live or just Boston/MA information would be greatly appreciated. Im originally from CT but havent lived there in years having served in the military. I will be making the move from GA. Please let me know if there are any unique considerations I should look at in making the move to the Boston area.

Thank you for your help.

Anywhere close to Boston is pretty safe. Brookline, Cambridge, Newton, Belmont and Somerville are going to be the closest into the city, so I wouldn't worry about it. I live in Belmont, off a bus line that takes 15 minutes into Harvard Square (Red Line Subway), and then 15 minutes to Park St and Downtown Boston.

Rental options will be somewhat limited on the budget you're talking about, and you're right that you'd be unable to find anything decent right in the city of Boston for that rent, unless you shared with someone. The first place that comes to mind when I read your crieteria is Newton. It's affluent and safe. Kind of pricey, and your options for rental property within your budget would be limited, but with some digging you should be able to find something. Newton is also very convenient to Boston by either driving or public transit.

Check out Quincy. It's about 15 minutes south of Boston, on the water. It is a city, but lots of residential areas and you can probably find an apt in a duplex or triplex for that price, with parking, and safe. It is also right on the "T".
