'Do fancy folks in Wellesley, Newton, Weston, Dover, etc. tint windows? Likely not.'

Who cares what they do??? are they role models for the rest of the state just because they live in a fancy town?

Cut the OP some slack. He's probably one of the friendliest, most helpful posters on this forum.

Yes, there's a reasonable argument to be made about extreme tinting levels, especially in a state that isn't Florida/Southwest hot, but those are already illegal in MA.

Most luxury cars have at least some level of tinting built into the layers of the glass itself, it can't be removed short of replacing the glass.

That said, I am sure you have seen plenty of luxury cars with dark tinting on them, it's very popular with the same sorts of people that buy performance cars. You don't often see a M3 or the like without noticeable tinting.

"but I don't wish to live in a world where my fellow motorists have tinted windows of any type."

Very dramatic.

That's pretty weak.

In Michigan, if you have two outside mirrors (i.e. driver's side AND passenger's side), you don't even have to see out of any windows behind the driver.
In California, you have to be able to see out them, but any amount of tint behind the driver is legal. 70% transmittance in the front side windows and no tint on the windshield.
AZ is just about the same as CA - just 33% in the front windows, not 30%.

My Jeep has fairly dark tinted windows in the back passenger and trunk/lift windows and I couldn't be happier. I feel more comfortable leaving things in the back when I go out shopping, etc., than I would without having tinted windows. Plus, as others have written, I appreciate the added privacy and protection from the sun rays that the tinted windows provide. If that makes me "ghetto," so be it

I've heard of window tint being used by police to harass certain classes of people they don't like, particularly on the North Shore and Metro North. About 15-20 years ago I heard about a cop in either Melrose or Medford who would pull kids with tint over and smash out their windows.

Wow. A friend in high school was pulled over for his tint and forced to take a razor blade and scrape it off. Smashing the windows seems unnecessary and illegal. Tint is a film put over the window. The cop is destroying people's property for no reason at all.

Smashing windows is a little extreme.

I've heard of kids being forced to scrape or get ticket though.

I've had tinted windows on my car for 7 years. Very slightly darker than legal, but you can still see in. I have not had any issues with it at all, but then again I don't fit any sort of stereotypical image with my car in general. Just a stock looking luxury sedan with baby seat in the back.

You "heard about"? Therefore it must have happened.
