Default Don't you guys get frusturated with the rent prices here?

I know I do. Just for an average 1 bedroom apartment I'm paying $1100 a month. It's sad because in most other states you can get a nice 2 bedroom apartment for around $600 a month. I'm seriously considering moving. What keeps everyone here with these crazy prices if they aren't making really good money at their job?

The weather, the beauty, the mountains, the ocean, the varied ethnic restaurants, the beautiful towns, etc...

Perhaps the people that pay rent here are considering the outside as well as the inside. The people in other parts of the country may value the inside more.

I would rather have a 1BR where I want to live than a 2Br where I don't want to live.

I used to get frustrated with the high cost of rents here in CA particularly Los Angeles. I totally agree with you. You are so right. I can go down to Phoenix or Tucson AZ and find a one bedroom place for 50% less than I would have to pay here AND it wouldn't be as crowded in those places. What keeps me here is that I am retraining for a new career. CA and LA are not bad places to live but I agree there are better places in this country to make a living. Where are you considering moving to?

Somebody did me the lovely favor of repping me. God, it feels so good to be repped. Anyway, they made a valid point. The anonymous repper mentioned "high gas prices, illegals, crime, smog, heavy traffic, over population, high taxes & fees". True in many places (high gas prices everywhere here!), but not all of CA is SoCal (my old stomping grounds). The Central Coast, Gold Country, and other places still retain tons of charm without the urban blight in other areas. I lived in AZ for a short time and can count the "nice" towns on one hand. In CA, I need all my digits (and reserve the big one for Santa Barbara, my hometown) and then some.

Yes, a lot of people do. The latest census figures for 2010 have shown that California's population growth rate has slowed down a lot as a result.

Most of the people moving to California now are those from other countries where they are used to paying a lot of their incomes for not very much living space. Native born Americans, other than the very high income folks, have been steadily moving out of CA for 20 years now.
