Specifically, the weather. I am a gardener. How is the dirt? Good for gardening? Also read that Ojai has a high level of Radon in the ground. Is this an issue? And, how is the air quality? Is the city "dog friendly" and are there places to walk the dogs while meeting new people. How far is the nearest major shopping? Medical facilities; i.e., doctors and hospitals? Thinking of looking for a home in the area. What would be the best bet: i.e., near town or acerage? :-) Thanks.

I don't know Ojai but since no one has yet responded i figured i'd just post this link for you.

As i see it, the sub-forums are there as options.
Many (most?) posts inquiring about various communities in California could fit into one of the sub-forums.

Ojai has always been an odd mix of money and new-ageism, even before that term was invented. Krishnamurti set up shop there ages ago and it's been a place that has attracted 'seekers' of all stripes. It's a beautiful location with great weather year-round. I think they filmed the original Lost Horizon there; at least parts of it....the nice parts. The town is really just a pleasant village that looks pretty hippyish on farmers' market day. Bikers cruise through occasionally. Can't speak to the "radon" question, but then, I'm naturally glowing. Gardening? Avocados and oranges.

I heard that black bears who live around Ojai have very shiny coats, cause they get to steal a lot of avocados from the fruit gardens
